April 5, 2018, Washington D.C. The TJ Clinic’s Director Maxine Marcus has been recognized with the Prominent Woman in International Law (PWIL) Award, presented by the Women in International Law Interest Group (WILIG) during the annual meeting of the American Society of International Law.
The WILIG Prominent Women in International Law Award recognizes the work of outstanding women in the field of international law. Previous awardees have included Justices on the ICJ and International Criminal Tribunals, founders of women’s rights NGOs, business leaders, government officials, and scholars. “Some of these women have broken glass ceilings in the field, while others have worked tirelessly to promote women and women’s voices in international law, and still others contribute substantively to advancing, researching, or advocating for women’s rights.”
“This year’s PWIL recipient is Maxine Marcus, an international criminal prosecutor and investigator who has worked for more than eighteen years in the field as a prosecuting attorney at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia and as an investigating attorney for the Civil Defence Forces prosecution team in the Special Court for Sierra Leone.”
Justice Rosalie Silberman Abella of the Supreme Court of Canada also gave remarks at the event.
